Our Flashcard section is customarily a clip-and-save guide to navigating some of the language's more treacherous waters. In past installments we've tackled homonyms, state abbreviations, essential and nonessential phrases, and the its/it's dilemma. This time, however, we simply convey a cornucopia of canine arcana. These facts are, indeed, just for fun.

Some Things You Probably Didn't Know About Dogs- 70% of people surveyed by the American Animal Hospital Association sign their pet's name on greeting cards. 58% include their pets in family and holiday portraits.
- An estimated 1 million dogs in the United States have been named the primary beneficiary in an owner's will.
- It's estimated that nearly 60% of dogs and puppies brought into shelters are eventually euthanized.
- The Bloodhound is the only animal capable of uncovering evidence that is admissible in American courts.
A Dog's Rules of Possession- If I like it, it's mine.
- If I saw it first, it's mine.
- If it's in my mouth, it's mine.
- If I can take it from you, it's mine.
- If I had it a little while ago, it's mine.
- If it's mine, it must never appear to be yours in any way.
- If I'm chewing something up, all of the pieces are mine.

Moptoppery- The Beatles song "Martha My Dear" was written by Paul McCartney about his Shetland sheepdog Martha.
- At the end of the song "A Day in the Life," an ultrasonic whistle, audible only to dogs, was recorded by McCartney for his dog.
